Today is Groundhog Day! The Official Groundhog site says:
Groundhog Day, February 2nd, is a popular tradition in the United States. It is also a legend that traverses centuries, its origins clouded in the mists of time with ethnic cultures and animals awakening on specific dates. Myths such as this tie our present to the distant past when nature did, indeed, influence our lives. It is the day that the Groundhog comes out of his hole after a long winter sleep to look for his shadow.
If he sees it, he regards it as an omen of six more weeks of bad weather and returns to his hole.
If the day is cloudy and, hence, shadowless, he takes it as a sign of spring and stays above ground.
Now, I don't know about you, but it certainly doesn't look sunny to me outside. I think I need to take a clue from Punxsutawney Phil, the official name of the prophetic groundhog, and crawl back into my hole for the next six weeks. Actually, I do have to make myself stay here today and be productive! No going out until things are done around here.
I am behind on laundry terribly. You know what, laundry just isn't fun. Maybe I could get Phil to come burrow in my laundry piles. Then, I would have an excuse not to fold, sort, spot-clean, mend, match and otherwise do my least favorite motherly duty. I wonder what Phil has been doing all winter.
I don't know why I have such a mental block to laundry. Maybe because it is neverending. I have to stop and remind myself of WHOM I doing laundry for and why I love them and why I continue to do the neverending chores like laundry and cleaning.
Now, out to look for my shadow! Come back tomorrow for Things I Learned Tuesday – to hear about my acting gig last week and the wonderful conclusion of the first annual PresWIC prayer retreat!
